Sound Shredding Celebrates 20th Year (and 37 Million Pounds of Paper Recycled) with Free Shred Events

Bellingham, WA, May 17, 2010 –

In June 2010, Sound Shredding & Recycling marks its 20th year of business by hosting two free community shred events as a recognition of the community support they’ve had over the past two decades.

“It's remarkable to maintain a business for 20 years, let alone have it grow and continue to stay on the cutting edge,” says Sound General Manager Peter Rasco.  “We see these free community shred events as a way to thank the Whatcom and Skagit communities for the support they’ve provided since Sound opened its doors.”

The first shred event takes place in Bellingham from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, July 10, and will be located across from the Bellingham Farmers Market on East Maple Street (between Railroad Avenue and North State Street).  The second shred event takes place in Mount Vernon from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, July 31, at the Mount Vernon Farmers Market.

At the event, members of the public can have up to two boxes or garbage bags of confidential papers shredded at no cost.

Founded by John Von Krusenstiern (as “Sound Recycling Services, Inc.”) in 1991, it started as a small operation on Ellis Street where the paper was baled by hand and loaded onto trucks with a homemade winch.  Since then, Sound has evolved into a state-of-the-art facility with the highest security certification available in the shredding industry.

Sound estimates that in the past twenty years, it has shredded and recycled more than 37 million pounds of paper, the rough equivalent of 48,050 100-foot-tall trees.

PAPER SHREDDING OFFER TO PUBLIC SAVES 7 TREES

GaPac Credit Union and Sound Shredding & Recycling collected enough confidential paper in April to save more than seven 100 foot-tall trees, along with saving some people the headache of potential identity theft.

For a week the two businesses jointly provided locked barrels at the credit union on James and Alabama Streets for the public to place their unwanted confidential papers at no cost.  The full barrels were taken to Sound's facility for shredding. All the paper was shipped directly to pulp mills for reuse as recycled paper products.

GaPac and Sound Shredding & Recycling plan to offer this free service again in October, during National Credit Union Week.  The scheduled shred will be open to the community.

SOUND SHREDDING & RECYCLING UNVEILS NEW NAME, NEW WEBSITE, AND A STATE-OF-THE-ART MOBILE SHREDDING TRUCK

Bellingham, WA June 1, 2007 – As of June 1, Sound Recycling Services has updated its name, website, and mobile shredding equipment to accurately reflect the nature of their business and better serve their customers in Whatcom, Skagit, and Island Counties.

The updated name, “Sound Shredding and Recycling,” better fits the services offered by the company.

“The name now accurately reflects the company’s business,” says founder John von Krusenstiern.  “We’re an information destruction company – that’s what we do.  While we still recycle every scrap of paper that comes through our warehouse, shredding is our primary business.”

In line with this renewed emphasis on information destruction, Sound Shredding & Recycling has rolled out its newest piece of equipment, a state-of-the-art mobile shredding truck.  The new truck, which can shred up to 5000 pounds of paper per hour, allows Sound Shredding and Recycling to greatly expand their mobile shredding capacity at more competitive rates.

“The need for a new mobile shredding truck was brought about both by a growing number of customers and a need to better serve our existing demand,” says Peter Rasco, General Manager.  “Increased efficiency means increased savings for our mobile shredding customers."

To reflect these change, the company’s website, www.soundrecycling.com, has been revamped and expanded, providing more detailed information on security policies, services, and options available to customers.  Combined, these changes fulfill Sound Shredding & Recycling’s mission statement.

“Since 1990, we have strived to bring world-class service to Whatcom, Skagit, and Island Counties,” says Rasco.  “With these changes we’ve made, we’ve taken yet another step in that direction.
