Sound Shredding Celebrates 20th Year (and 37 Million Pounds of Paper Recycled) with Free Shred Events
Bellingham, WA, May 17, 2010 – In June 2010, Sound Shredding & Recycling marks its 20th year of business by hosting two free community shred events as a recognition of the community support they’ve had over the past two decades.
“It's remarkable to maintain a business for 20 years, let alone have it grow and continue to stay on the cutting edge,” says Sound General Manager Peter Rasco. “We see these free community shred events as a way to thank the Whatcom and Skagit communities for the support they’ve provided since Sound opened its doors.”
The first shred event takes place in Bellingham from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, July 10, and will be located across from the Bellingham Farmers Market on East Maple Street (between Railroad Avenue and North State Street). The second shred event takes place in Mount Vernon from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, July 31, at the Mount Vernon Farmers Market.
At the event, members of the public can have up to two boxes or garbage bags of confidential papers shredded at no cost.
Founded by John Von Krusenstiern (as “Sound Recycling Services, Inc.”) in 1991, it started as a small operation on Ellis Street where the paper was baled by hand and loaded onto trucks with a homemade winch. Since then, Sound has evolved into a state-of-the-art facility with the highest security certification available in the shredding industry.
Sound estimates that in the past twenty years, it has shredded and recycled more than 37 million pounds of paper, the rough equivalent of 48,050 100-foot-tall trees.
